What are dynamic fonts and why do I need it?
There are hundreds of devnagari fonts available today used by different web-sites.
Although Kiran fonts is becoming more & more popular, there are visitors
who do not have them installed on there PC. It is very irritating for these site visitors to download fonts, install them on their machine, restart the browser, etc just to read the first
page of your site.
Generally visitors avoid those sites that make them install fonts to go through it. You are loosing your visitors just because they cannot read what you have written on your web-site.
Is there any solution to this?
There are 2 solutions to this problem. Use of images. This method ensures that 100% of users can read your site as intended by you. But it has serious drawbacks. First, they eat up lot of resources, disk space and bandwidth. For slow connections, it takes minutes to download an entire page. Also making corrections, updating is very painful. Some browsers display old images even if site image is updated because of temporary cached copy.
Other solution is the use of dynamic fonts. Dynamic fonts are special font files hosted on your web server. These are automatically downloaded to user's machine when they access your web-site. They can read the site contents in devnagari as if the font was installed on his/her machine. There are different dynamic font formats available focusing different OS, browsers, etc.
Fortunayely, the largest number of internet users use Internet explorer browser version 5.0 or greater which is exactly what is needed to make use of dynamic fonts created using (Microsoft Embedded Open Type [*.eot]) technology. This way we can ensure that more than 87% of your web-site visitors can read your web-site without having them to download the actual fonts.

from over 33,500 kiranfont site visitors from 29 September 2000 till 20
July 2004.
It shows that 87.79% (and growing. It was 85% till February 2004) of the total visitors qualify the criteria for the dynamic fonts.
It means about 88% of your traffic can read your site even without downloading and installing kiran fonts. Remaining 8% users have the option of installing the fonts on there machine and still access your site. Only 4% users are having browsers or OS that does not support the True Type format which makes them impossible to see the pages in the required font.
